Today we completed a red asphalt patch repair on a pedestrian footpath on the corner of Nettleton Rd & Stilton Way, Byford. Footpaths in areas of development like Byford may be pulled up for the installation of services such as power, water, sewerage and telecommunications. It’s important to reinstate the asphalt as soon as possible to remove the slipping and tripping hazards and to improve the street utility and beautification.
Many footpaths in Perth are constructed using red asphalt like this one in Byford. Red asphalt repairs are completed in the same way as black asphalt repairs, the main difficulty with red asphalt is that it is not always available every day of the week.
It is important to note, red asphalt costs more than black asphalt and has minimum order requirements, meaning for smaller red jobs they are best scheduled and completed on a day when other red asphalt jobs are booked, to keep the costs down.
Additionally, new red asphalt will look much darker, almost brown in colour, compared to the existing asphalt. Red asphalt patches will over time, as it ages, get closer in colour to the existing asphalt on the ground but will never match up.
Thanks to our technician Harrison for a job well done and thank you very much to our friends at Wormall Civil for engaging us to complete the work.
