Today we completed a small 1m² asphalt patch repair in the carpark at HBF Stadium in Stephenson Ave, Mount Claremont for Techworks Plumbing.
Located in the carpark driveway near the overflow parking the patch of asphalt to be repaired had sunken and cracked creating an obstacle to be avoided by vehicles and pedestrians utilising the carpark. Techworks Plumbing undertook the preparation works by cutting and removing the existing broken asphalt, preparing the underlying base and leaving a nice neat square patch for us to reinstate.
The most common reason for asphalt to sink and crack is a failure in the underlying base that supports the asphalt. Failure in base can be due to a number of reasons, some common ones include incorrect base material, improper compaction, degradation of the base due to water penetration or movement of the base material into a hollow space such as a pipe or soak well.
Thanks to our technician Jake for a job well done and thanks to our friends at Techworks Plumbing for trusting us to do the work!

Quick fact / Did you know?
Have you ever noticed the lack of puddles or water on a major Motorway or Freeway during or after heavy rainfall? This is due to the use of open grade asphalt which is a porous asphalt mix formulated to provide large voids (in excess of 20 per cent) to allow surface water to drain away and hence increase safety for the motorist.
